One time producer behind writer/director Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Swept Away), Matthew Vaughn truly came into his own when he produced and directed the 2004 film Layer Cake. In 2006, Vaughn was hired to direct X-Men: The Last Stand. He stayed on long enough to make some important casting decisions, but had to drop out due to family issues. Shortly thereafter, he was approached by Paramount Pictures to adapt Neil Gaiman’s illustrated novel Stardust (published by DC Comics) into a feature length film. Stardust, released in 2007, garnered positive critical reviews, if not a huge box office turnout. Since then, Vaughn has been attached to direct Marvel’s upcoming adaptation of its longtime character Thor. He is also writing and directing a film adaptation of a new comic created by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. known as Kick Ass, published by Marvel imprint Icon. No release date has been announced for either film.
